Students are the learners, not the product.
A short, plain promise about how we treat student information — and five commitments we hold ourselves to.
Our commitments
No advertising
There are no ads in BERIH Academy of Learning, and no ad or marketing trackers following students around the web. Study sessions are never used to target anyone with advertising.
No student data sales
We do not sell, rent, or trade student information — to data brokers, advertisers, publishers, or anyone else. It is not part of our revenue model, and it never will be.
Data stored securely
Sessions are stored encrypted, and access rules mean a student's sessions are readable only by that student and the adults they are linked to. Staff access is limited to what is needed to run and support the service.
Guardian consent where required
Where a student is under the age at which they can agree on their own, or where a school requires it, a parent or guardian consents before an account is used. Schools can require consent for every student in their licence.
Deletion upon request
A student, parent, guardian, or school can ask us to delete an account and its study sessions, and we will. Deleting a session in the app removes it right away.
The companion does not fish for details
The tutor is instructed never to ask for personal, health, or family information, and to redirect students to a teacher, counsellor, or guardian for anything beyond coursework.
What we keep
- An account: sign-in email and a display name.
- Study sessions: the subject, the learning mode, the conversation, and reflections.
- Basic activity needed to show progress, such as when a session was last active.
Who can see it
- The student, always.
- A parent or guardian the student has linked to their account.
- A teacher, only where a school licence is in place and only for their own students.
- No other student, and no outside company.
